Using Sculpture Blanks
Our sculpture blanks are designed to see you through the entire process from sculpture to molding to casting your final piece.
These blanks, when used to cast your final head, will create the perfect seat for your eyes to be placed into. This ensures your eyes are at the proper depth within the head and the exact position to provide your intended expression.
Using blanks in your sculpture
Before starting your sculpture, we recommend loosening the threaded rod from the blank for the first time, using an 8-32 Allen/Hex key.
Firmly grasp the blank and, using an Allen key for 8-32 heads, turn counter clockwise.
You will hear a small crack, this is normal.
Using blanks in your mold
We recommend lubricating the threaded rod well enough that it can be removed - though not to the point where the threads of the bolt are filled over and cannot create corresponding threads in your mold.
After finishing your mold, remove all of the clay and unthread the blank from the rod that is now embedded in your mold. Properly clean and re-thread onto the bolt. We recommend lubricating your blank for easy removal from your casting. Be sure to use a lubricant that will not inhibit the material you are casting with.
Ensure that your blank is touching the surface of your mold and is firmly tightened.
For large production runs, we recommend using our Pro Blanks.
Iris Sculpture Blanks
If using Iris Sculpture Blanks, evenly fill the iris ring with oil based clay before molding as to not create a positive ring within your mold.
This will eliminate a weak point in the mold, and allow for the use of Regular or Pro blanks when casting.
